Stampy seems to be doing really well on the Prozac!! He's almost lovable.
Odin had this disgusting, clear (i.e. not like runny poop), worst-smelling-ever liquid excretion yesterday.

Depressing vet visit

Judith was right. Kappa's head piercing was just a burst abscess, and the vet said that yes, in the future, I can just clean it and put neosporin on it. She said if I can, to keep him inside, and he gets some antibiotics twice a day.
Horribly, however, he has fleas and worms. So he got Revolution in addition to his rabies shots, and the girls will go in Saturday with Stampy to get rabies, Revolution, and wormer if they need it.
I am so grossed out.
Odin does not have giardia, but Dr. W had an idea for something to give him to try to stop leaky butt.
I'm so mortified about the condition of my cat that I can't even remember if there is anything else to report.

Disgusting Photo Warning: Kappa's Head Shots

I am a terrible pet owner. On Saturday, me and my dad noticed that Kappa's head had a funny lump and something that felt like a scab. He wasn't around Sunday when I left, and I didn't see him Tuesday night when I got back either.
This morning, he came in the house and was sleeping in his favorite box, and when I came home at lunch he was still there, then, very oddly, when I got home at 9 pm, he was still there.
I gave him some cat treats, which he gobbled, and then I noticed he was cleaning the spot, so I got some kleenex to help him. And I touched it, very lightly, and pus & blood came shooting out and soaked the kleenex. That happened two more times. Then the swelling was down enough, and his matted hair (and the hair cut I gave him Saturday to see if I could figure out what it was) revealed ....
a puncture wound. That looks deep, and appears to be in the top of his skull.
I shut the door so no cats can escape tonight (after I "cleaned" it (pushed on it and let it drain more and pushed the hair away), Kappa went and ate and used the litter box and sat on the piano and purred, so he seems to be feeling ok), and I'm going to call and try to take him to the vet tomorrow.
I have two concerns: Stampy bite and rabies.

Dad's whirlwind visit

Note how stupid Stampy looks in each picture.

Poor Daisy!

Is everything going ok with Daisy? I am so sorry to hear that she took a little dive. Her timing is impeccable.

Stampy is now being boarded each week for 2-3 days, to give Odie (and the cats) a break. And hopefully get him more used to change and being alone/independent a little more.

Odie spent the night at KT's a couple nights ago, and he asked whether he groans when he moves all the time, and I said "well, yeah" and at that moment, realized I probably shouldn't just let him be in pain all the time. Last time we were at the vet I mentioned it, but then I said I didn't want him on more medication. So I'm about to email the vet to ask for Prozac for Stampy and Rimadyl for Odin.

Odin's had about every other day kind of crazy leaky butt (** gross alert: there are some splatters on the linoleum in the kitchen, and I'm just like "thank god it's on the linoleum instead of the carpet), but seems to be feeling ok over all. Just crazy heart episode about once a week, but I've noticed I've been having a racing heart about every three days.

Stampy with Bone

He spent Monday and Tuesday at the new boarding place.
It only cost $14.50 (!) (they charge by the night stayed, not the day), and it is just as nice a facility as Fido's Farm, and about the same amount of time in the car. Plus, my dog training friend highly recommended it.
It is Country Inn Pet Resort & Spa, 100 Foreman Road, McCleary, WA 98557 (360) 495-4800.
They don't have a website (that I could find).

Today, I am doing what looks like 100 loads of laundry, the boys got groomed and a bath this morning, and now a fire is warming the house. Nice.

Back on the Downslope Side

After what feels like about a week of really good Odie-time (he ate, no leaky butt, he was prancy, alert), he's going back down again. Last night the crazy heart and loud breathing was 2 hours. I cried only about the first half hour and then just sat next to him and tried to figure out if he was suffering. And the leaky butt is starting up again.
Stampy got boarded Sat/Sun and Mon/Tues, so tonight when I pick him up, I'll have feedback on the new place, which my friend R (who trains dogs) recommended. Odie seemed like he maybe missed Stampy a little, which is totally unexpected. Kappa is in 7th heaven while Stampy is gone.
